My first impressions of Weimar were a city of culture and tourism. With horses and carriages trotting by and tour guide with their oversized microphones. However, I did see the quirky side of Weimar, a hidden sub culture of ‘after the tourists go home.’ In this photograph I have the horse and carriage fleeing by taking tourists to their next photo point, but sleeping in the foreground the crazy side of Weimar. To me Weimar changes as a city, as do many student cities, during the night. The teddy-bear represents the quirky side of Weimar who only as a citizen you get to know and its sits side by side the the blissfully unaware tourists.
I stumbled across these wooden sculptures. They look so sad and helpless just lying their waiting to be stood upright but also to me they are having a rest before they go on view to the public and have to stand there day after day. It made me imagine that art work is alive and gets tired of being on display. A silly thought but I feel this image represents this strange hidden side of art well. To imagine that paintings sleep after the museum lights are turned off.
